This 2015 Christmas Season, our foundation decided to collaborate with Canton City Schools After-School programs from every elementary and middle school in Canton City School District. Each school selected 2 students that participate in the after school program, exemplifies good leadership skills, and strive for greatness while dealing with adversity. These students and families were all invited to celebrate the accomplishments of the students in a Christmas Dinner & Recognition Awards Ceremony.

The event was held at Timken Commons. We decorated Timken Commons with Christmas trees,  stars, and snowflakes that were donated and set up by Bluegrass Company. The dinner was catered by Honeybaked Ham and there was an assortment of turkey, veggie, and ham sandwiches to select from. For the recognition awards ceremony, each after school coordinator presented to the audience why they selected the student to be recognized as it relates to his/her circumstances and behavior. We were able to provide 32 students with a nice quality winter coat, a pair of Jordan sneakers, and a Samsung galaxy tablet.

The recognition ceremony concluded with a SURPRISE to the students and their families our foundation had for each of the 32 students. For their accomplishments, we provided each student with a good quality winter coat, a pair of Jordan sneakers, and a Samsung galaxy tablet!!! Founder Silena Semedo believes that it doesn’t matter what you are going through. The important thing is what you learned from what you are going through. And if we can give kids the extra boost of confidence or acknowledge them so they can feel better and believe in themselves just a little more, then its TOTALLY worth it!!!

The Silena Semedo Foundation would like to thank all of our volunteers! A special thanks goes to Stuart Lichter, Canton City Schools staff Andrea Ramsey, Shauna Rozier, and each of the after-school program coordinators for assisting us in making this wonderful event happen. And as always, remember what the season is all about!
